Precision is a wonderful goal but I don’t believe we need to get too carried away for this project. Running a board or piece of MDF along a table saw fence would result in a nice straight line on the cut edge. Take and cut off another piece a 2” or so inches wide for the guide, drill your countersunk holes, sand of any burrs on the side that goes against the board. Apply your sticky back sand paper, tightly clamp (barrow or buy you'll never have enough clamps for this hobby) the guide to the board pre-drill pilot holes, secure with screws – done. That's the way I made the ones in the shop all work great and are very accurate.

Actually the one in the KMG tutor is made from a piece of stock shelving material from the big box store -- it had prefectly straight edges.
