I might also throw in that zinsser seal-coat, mixed 50/50 with mineral spirits, can be wiped on, left for a couple of hours, then rubbed off with 0000 steel wool, and gives a completely clear pore fill that works fine with topcoats. It will shrink a little so I use a second coat. .02

Hi Bob, Sorry to hear that your having some problems with Hood's Grain filler. I also used Hood's filler on the two guitars that I have finished, and had the same problems that you mentioned, brush marks and drying to fast. I applied two coats on the 1st guitar and 3 coats on the 2nd, with the 2nd guitar turning out better, but not great. I talked with Eric the owner of Hood Products, He suggested that I use his Magna Shield Retarder, which slows down the drying time. He said to mix 5% of the retarder by volumn, with the QDPF. I haven't decided on what filler I'm going to use on the present project.
Eric also said that foam brushes could NOT be use when applying QDPF.
