I agree. I'm sure if we didn't point out our "mistakes" no one would ever notice.

The finishing is going great. I am using Tru Oil and am not pore-filling - it is really quite enjoyable to do.
I sanded to 800 grit (though there are one or two scratches I missed that have become visible with a few coats of finish applied), and then applied a very thin coat of Tru Oil and left it to dry for a day. After that I have been doing about 3 very thin coats a day - just wiping on with a sponge wrapped in lint-free cloth, and then wiping off any excess with a pad wrapped in lint-free cloth. The back has 8 coats on and feels very smooth and looks brilliant. I might knock it back with steel wool one last time and do a final thin coat - we'll see.
One slight issue is my rosette. I used plastic purfling, which continues to look bright and crisp under the Tru Oil, however my rosette is from stew-mac and is made of thin bits of wood, so the rosette is darkening along with the soundboard. Something to keep in mind for future builds! The soundhole binding looks neat and I am really glad I went ahead with it.
Back after about 6 coats:

Looking good. I love the ease of tru oil and Dave is right it gives the guitar that "pick me up and play me" vibe.

I tried TO on my first guitar and wasn't happy with MY results, sanded it off and sprayed lacquer on it.
I have a new 8oz bottle of TO waiting to try it again.

At first I was thinking of using spray cans of nitro lacquer, but I would have had to spray it outside, and even then in a very communal area. To be able to wipe a finish on in my own bedroom and not stink the place out is a real plus.
Almost there now. I have added string ramps to the bridge and got hold of some nut files to sort out the nut. Once the bridge is glued on I then have to polish the frets, install the tuners and shape the nut and saddle. Hopefully will be strung up this time next week.
