Acoustic Guitar Construction

I now have the top and back fit to the rims. I will be (hopefully) closing the box on this one tonight.

I attached the back and top last night and routed them flush to the sides. It is starting to look like a guitar now.
This is down on the solera in the gobar deck. The back is glued first, then the top is glued with it down on the solera, and the neck is set a about a 1.5mm downward set. This will allow for a shorter height bridge.

I now have the bindings and purflings glued in and all scraped/sanded down. I had a little trouble with a binding joint at the butt end ( I won't show you that), but otherwise it turned out pretty good.
My scheme is Curly Koa bindings with a maple and an indian rosewood purfling line, both full height. When I started my first side, after putting on a few strips of binding tape, I saw that I had the maple purfling on first, the EIR purfling on second, the EIR was supposed to be on the inside.....GOOD GRIEF! So I pulled it off barely, all sticky of course, used a little water on a brush to dilute things a little, and restarted. Then it went fine. However, my binding at the butt end pulled off the center line about 1/8", not sure how I did that. Also, I had trimmed both bindings for that butt joint and sanded them on my disc sander, which burnt the ends......I figured a good joint wouldn't show anything...WRONG! I had this dark seam at the joint. Dang! So I took some scrap Koa binding, cut a small V as if I was cutting out that seam, and glued in a well fitting piece, clamped it tight, and when it was dried, sanded it down and you could not find that fix, so I decided to do it on the guitar. That fix did not come out so good and it shows. I might now be as noticeable as the dark seam was, but I am disappointed in myself for not getting this simple process right this time. The worst joint of done in any previous 11 guitars. Another lesson well learned.
I used original Titebond, and I like this glue, but man for bindings, it just gets tacky too fast. I really liked the old LMI White glue for this reason, not as thin, and didn't get tacky so fast.

Is that twill tape or elastic wrapping ribbon? Is it helpful when using binding tape?

It is Twill tape. I think it probably does help. I've done it both with and without. I think with 3 layers of binding and purfling it can't hurt, but man you got to work fast to get boths sides on and THEN wrap. I wonder how much movement I really get as that glue is certainly already setting up.

I glued the fretboard on Friday night and actually did carve the neck on Saturday, but didn't take a picture yet. There is some fine tuning to do but most of it is done.
Going to Hume Lake cabin this week so won't get anything else done this week.
