I contacted Blackbird Guitars - all-carbon fiber instruments - to ask about the hardness of the CF compared with hard wood - my concern being the ball ends pulling through, and Joe responded:

Carbon fiber and epoxy are considered very hard on the hardness scale so happily ball ends have never been an issue for us. It helps too that the composite bridge has string slots that lock the ball under the bridge plate, the top and the bridge itself. A very robust combination indeed.
