Hi Kathy -
A number of luthiers use the rattle cans for finishing the whole instrument, with really good results, and I'm thinking that the preval is much the same principle.
Does your experience lead you to believe that the Preval sprayer, (all else being equal; I'm only talking about the ability to lay on a consistent spray by a semi-skilled builder) could NOT do the job, given time not an issue and all the materials as I said being equal?
Thanks. We are all big fans of yours here!
Seems like a good idea - but is it?

I only have one container (jar), and I spray alcohol through it after each spraying session to clean the sprayer. That seems to work fine for me.kencierp wrote:Kathy
Can you leave the shellac (I assume thinned) in the container/sprayer or do you have to spray alcohol through the Preval to clean the nozzle valve etc.?

Thanks for the kind words! I haven't ever used the PreVal for doing a whole instrument, though I imagine you could. What I find (with spraying the shellac), is that, when I first press on the nozzle, it does tend to "spit" a little bit, but it immediately turns into a nice, fine spray. I haven't tried spraying waterbase lacquer with it yet, though, so I don't know how well it sprays that. It does spray the Zinsser SealCoat well, though (and I don't thin the SealCoat at all). I don't know how many PreVal containers it would take, though, to do a whole instrument.....deadedith wrote:Hi Kathy -

I might experiment, though, with my EM6000, just to see how it sprays out of the PreVal......
