Will the worlds' greatest living luthiers over there give you a suggestion for the repair? :-)

The worlds greatest living luthiers reside at luthierforum.com. This build is for the OLF, luthierSforum.com. Notice the S in the second url? Big difference. But I did post a pic there to garner some advice. Here is that post repeated for your viewing pleasure:

Well alright. I figured I would begin pore filling while I thought about what to do and also because I figured I would not want to change the repair after I started pore filling, thus finalizing my repair, but here is a pic for you all to ponder the worst repair I have ever done:


That is some abalone and a piece of thick b/w purfling I had on hand. I need to fit two small pieces of pearl into the corners where they meet the binding.
Jeez...seeing it this big makes me realize this was not the best idea I have ever had. My other thought was to fill the whole section with ebony dust and epoxy which would make that area look like thick binding. There is still plenty of time to do that.

Here is a shot of the box with z-poxy on it.

Isn't it just like me, the big loveable oaf, to miss an "S" and elicit your satire? I come by it naturally, having been born into a long line of oafishness. I'm kinda like Hoss on the Ponderosa, without the gap in the teeth. Or the hat, the vest, the belly, or Pa.

I was really only looking for a way to use the phrase 'the world's greatest living luthiers' because it is such an arrogant and asinine statement, and ever since I heard it, the phrase has been to me like the bug that was put in Scotty's ear in one of the Star Trek movies, that crawled around in his head and finally latched onto his spinal cord, if I'm not mistaken. Oafs often are.

Anyway I've been following your project with interest and my money is on you and not on the boo-boo.

I thank you, the ukulele thanks you, and most importantly, the world's greatest living luthiers thank you. Since I post at that forum, I must be one of them, right?
I am still mulling over my options. Most of this will be hidden by the fret board extension so honestly, there is very little repair that will show.

Here is the mistake with the fret board extension in place. This changes things a lot since now only a small portion of the goof is visible. Small compared to the whole area. It is still a big screw up.


Thoughts?

How do you all feel about a black top or a burst? Anyone? Anyone? That would surely cover my goof, and I wont have to retop this puppy.
