Excellent work mate. You are going to make someone happy! Still not playing yourself?
A Kay in the background.... Is it worth something as a good guitar, since the Kay's are sold as "vintage"?. Meaning becoming expensive on Reverb.

Thanks Herman
Nah I'm too old to add trying to learn the violin.
I'll find someone to give it to.
That Kay is from about 1964. It's in good shape except the neck is badly bowed. Not playable above the 3rd or 4th frets. It was given to me. Perhaps one day I'll see about pulling the neck and fixing it. I've never removed a dovetail neck before.
Put 2 coats of clear oil varnish today. Tomorrow I'll start the color coats.

Well alright!
I've been putting on color coats for a week or two. I've got 15 color coats on the top and 12 on the back, sides and neck scroll. I like the depth of the slightly reddish mostly brown color. I'll let it dry for 3 days, lightly wet sand with 800 grit then put on 3 or 4 coats of clear. Allow that to dry about 3 weeks then I can finish the finish.

Re: A violin project begins #4
So I wet sanded the finish on the violin last week and waited for a warm day.....yesterday!!
I brushed on two thin coats of clear varnish. Looking pretty good. I know there is too much varnish on this thing but I'm still learning. I will rub it out in a couple or 3 weeks and reassemble.
My 46 year old daughter told me she'd like to learn to play the violin......she is an accomplished concert pianist!!
So I'm going to surprise her with this one when they come to the USA in April.
