Hello everyone, I'm curious to find out if there is a lesson I should have learned before ordering one truss rod over another truss rod. I'm speaking strictly about the physical length vs cost or quality. I see truss rods offered from different suppliers and one has an overall length of 14.25" and the other is 15.5".
Is this because of a bolt on neck and/or adjustment at the neck end vs inside the body? My intent is to use the bolt on method and to have the TR adjustable from inside the Body.
Thanks.

It typically has to do with where the neck joins the body, i.e. 12th or 14th fret.

Glue up went well today. Everything is now back to square and flat. I've got decisions to make on neck attachment yet and trying to sort out truss rod issues. If you were to choose an attachment method for a new build, would you pick a bolt-on ? With or without a mortise/tenon? I do like the simplicity and neck reset ability.

John J... Thank you for your comment as well.

John, I sort of like the solid feel of the M/T bolt on too, from a wood working fit kind of view. My question would be then, What and where is the wood to wood contact? Other than the obvious body to heel? I just can't get my head around just a neck to body contact without any vertical guide to help any twist that "might" occur. Will inserts or cross dowels and SHCScrews then take up that task?

Yes the main wood to wood is the heel cheek to the rims. Two bolts help to prevent twisting, Also the fret board extension against the top is another wood to wood contact that prevents twist. Finally the tenon in the mortice while not glued is still preventing the neck from turning.

Thanks to all for the much needed input. The neck carving has taken a bit of concentrated effort but well worth the time involved. I glued on the headstock veneer last night and sanded it to 400 grit for now.
