Nice work Kevin! What is your procedure for flattening the top with a plane?

The instructions on the back of the cereal box say to hand plane straight across the top first, concentrating on the high spots, but then going for flat, then diagonally one way, then diagonal the opposite way, then plane the full length.
I sort of did this on the bottom, but didn't try to get it perfect. I should work, according to the instructions on the box of Post Toasties. :)

You made an excellent bar with that stool. I thought you quit drinking! ;-)

I think you should shape the top like a guitar body. Save on space and not so sharp corners .

Nice work. I would add a piece of 1x4 hardwood on the ends. Eliminate tendency to split when clamplig and stabilize the deck. What vice are you using?

Spent a couple of hours last night hand planing the top flat, then used the orbital sander on it....that made it look better but it is probably not as flat now :( Oh well, it looks nice.
The finished thickness of the top is right at 3".
I will put a face on the right end, not sure I will on the left end. I have two cabinet makers vises coming today from Grizzly....one for the end, and one for a face vise on the left front.
Mixed reviews on this vise, but a good price point and for what I do, it will be nice to have two vises for the $$

Are you going gloss or semi-gloss? :-)
