Decided to rout in a backstrip. Very carefully.

Back braces glued up. Contouring and thinning at the rim.

Back glued up and trimmed. Tail wedge next.

Got the tail wedge done. Have been prepping the sides for the dreaded binding step.

I decided to take a little detour before routing the body for bindings.
