Haven't updated my J185 progress in a while so here goes. Had some great weather a few weeks ago so I was able to spay 4 coats of Cardinal lacquer on then on to the sunburst the following day. I was really rushing (not good) knowing that the weather was going to make a big change. I shot the burst and was not happy with the results so after a couple of days I bit the bullet and sanded it off. Not only was I rushing but I was using my POS touch up gun that I bought from Enco a decade ago for no more than 20 bucks. I know that it is the poor carpenter that blames his tools but this thing is barely a step above a brush. Got on ebay and bought a nice Devilbiss gun which should make life much easier. We had an ice storm down here a couple of weeks ago so working in the garage was out and that coupled with it being the xmas season, we are pounded at work, so I really have done nothing more than sand off the burst. The reason I am shooting the sunburst is to hide the bend "wrinkles" and the small chipped edge on the top that happened when routing the step for the binding. Looking at the pictures I can barely see the defects, oh well, the sun burst will look nice if I get it right. We'll get back on it after the new year. I really like this build. Sorry about your sunburst. That is probably my favorite color (?) of guitar. I've been thinking of a sunburst under a Tru-Oil finish. I have COPD so I'm not going to be spraying anything. So that sort of limits me that way. Happy holidays to you as well

Are you going to try to burst again? When I did a burst I put down a base color amber on the whole top. That way as the burst got lighter and lighter it transitioned to the base color. I think burst to not dyed wood loses the continuity of the burst. So I had a base color, an inside color and an out side color. I worked from inside out.
btw, I am not sure you have anything to hide. I think what you see as flaws will disappear to the viewer not focusing on them. From the pictures it looks like a very nice guitar.
