That is correct, I also used to have access to a PLEK machine which allowed milling some relief in. Not close enough to one now so back to doing by hand

When I do classical guitars (my only fixed neck) I plane in a bit of relief in the fret board before I fret. The relief is to increase the distance between the string and the fret board to allow a little lower action especially on the bass side.
