I don't know if I have said this yet, but that is some nice maple!

I think the linings are walnut. At least that what they look like from here. What are the bindings?

The kerfing is Peruvian walnut. The bindings are another species of walnut, but I can't recall which.

The bindings are Michigan Black Walnut ---Maple and Walnut are perhaps my favorite combo.

That settles it! I'm going to have to find something else to make. There are just TOO many great guitars being made out there and I no longer feel like I'm building something unique! I bet there are alot fewer guys out there making handmade boomarangs so I'm going to look into making those.

For reals, very nice work Dave. And I too like the combination. I love walnut, I love maple, and they are both easy to work with, and, they both can be from our back yards. The next guitar I build for myself will be Ambrosia Maple with walnut appointments, an OM based crossover.....

Anyway, yours is looking good.

When last we saw our J200-in-the-rough, it was awaiting the routing of channels for binding. For me, that process has been cause for some stress, but I've certainly found that practicing helps a lot, and just being patient with sneaking up on the right depth and height of the channel.

Egads! Who has been drawing on my guitar with chalk!??! Tony!! :)

I did A LOT of checking with binding/purfling sample pieces, and used sandpaper and files to get the channel clean. And a lot of tape as I put it on, took it off, put it on, took it off, ... repeat as necessary.

I used a laminate trimmer-router machine, with a spiral bit and Ken's IA binding jig.

Taped on to check for fit on the back.

I use the CA gluing method.

It's now or never. Let that CA glue wick in with a drop between the pieces of tape.

Gross, what's that whitish gunk? It looks bad, but it is from me spraying the CA accelerator on it. It will be cleaned up later.
