Dave, that's what I was speculating about doing. I've done a bit of molding fiberglass parts in place, then trimming and then fastening the part into its host structure after the part sets up.

I was musing about doing a similar thing with the bindings, and the doing would allow me to clean up the lower edge before installing the binding and the b/w/b purfling strips I had in mind. Ken warned me off doing this on a first-time project, and I was trying to get myself into a position where I was not trying to keep a lamination from getting out of control while trying to install it into its channel along with the purfling strips. I'm going to be plenty busy installing one piece of binding, much less three at once in the same place.

Ken, that picture you posted looks very closely related to the technique I use when making laminated wingtip and empennage curvy bits for model airplanes. I even know what I can trace to make a pattern....
