Beautiful guitar, Tony! Can't wait to hear how she sounds! I have some sitka I have been using on the last several guitars that has a more aged appearance than the typical sitka you can get from LMI or other supply houses. I sourced it locally. Some of it has some minor to pretty heavy bearclaw, but it all has that lighter area (heart-wood?) that your guitar shows. I usually either trim it off, or flip the peices around so the light area is outside, where 99% of it gets trimmed. I like the look of yours, though...it is a very natural appearance. I have to think about it for the next two I am starting (Another zebra wood and a wenge, both jumbos).
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

Thanks Ken! This top is cedar, but I would do the same with spruce if I had a shaded top like this.
I like my wood to look like it came from a tree, not a laser printer. I can buy a million guitars with perfectly uniform colored soundboards so I prefer not to make my guitars look like that!

Well....not exactly a million, but close. I could probably buy two. That's close to a million, right?

I really like the colors in the rosette, Where did you get that rosette wood??? The rosette wood is really is complimented well by the Cedar. Awesome work. Jack.

PS: I ordered my next kit from Ken , Dread with Black walnut back and sides , stika top, Maple/walnut/ maple neck , three piece back with walnut/maple/walnut, flamed walnut headplate, abalone rosette. Should be nice!

Thanks Jack! The rosette wood is Box Elder burl. I did not dye it, it is that color naturally! It is beautiful stuff, which is why the rosette ring is so wide! I wanted to show it off!
