Re: DIY cheap and effective dust collector
I am going to make a cone shape form and use it to make aluminum cones -- I think the real vortex shape might be a little more effcient -- thinking again of our Zillion Dollar Dyson vacuum cleaner. Maybe multiple collectors? Plus there will be plentuy of duct tape.

Re: DIY cheap and effective dust collector
I bought the Oneida Dust Deputy and it is great. I wish I had a bigger bucket.
Dave,
The cheap and dirty solution to your bucket tipping problem is a brick either glued or duct taped to the bottom of the bucket. My brick is loose so it falls out when I dump the bucket. This causes a lot of dust to blow up out of the garbage and into the air. Next time I empty, I am sticking it down somehow. Maybe metal straps?

Not my idea --- use two buckets, fill (partially) the bottom one with sand then stick the collection bucket into the first bucket.

Re: DIY cheap and effective dust collector
I just finished about an hour's work on the bandsaw, and the dust collector worked ok - it is not as efficient as it could be, so I will upgrade when I can. Plus I need another length of hose to exhaust out of the shop.

You know, I always make things more difficult than they need to be - the cardboard is an excellent idea and I'm going to try it.
