I made a template for the side profile and then cut to shape before bending.

Dean, I use a small circular saw blade on a dremel. A little crude but lots quicker than a block plane and I do clean up the edge before sanding with a small plane.

Edit: You know, I've never used a Mega-Mold, although I've followed Ken's tips for many other parts of our addiction. So I don't know how the marking and cutting of the side contour would work in that situation.

Ken cut the profiles on the sides before bending, then put them into the mega mold.
