I kind of remember that Dave, or at least hearing about it. I come and go form all the forums depending on if I'm home or back overseas. Anyway, did you use the popular for a guitar? I would be interested in what that sounds like...maple?

I was warned away from using it for anything structural. I have used a lot of it for solid linings though.

I recently built myself a shooting board to use with my Veritas block plane. It's nowhere near as nice a setup as the OP's, but I've learned to appreciate it. I have a nice 6" spiral-head jointer, but very small & very thin pieces just are not suited (or safe) to work on a jointer.

I too use the veritas standard block plane, it is a fine tool. I've built my own jig for jointing and though that jointer plane Ty has is drool-worthy, I don't think Santa will be filling my sock with one.
