Ladder-braced parlor guitar
Re: Ladder-braced parlor guitar
Zpoxy is formulated to sand off easily -- that, in my opinion is paramount.

Re: Ladder-braced parlor guitar
Awesome thread as I'm also just beginning a Parlor guitar Classical. I finished the little re-build on the Old Kay body I changed to nylon strings. I'm Using Honduran Mahogony for the back, sides, and neck. The top will be Red Cedar. It hasn't even arrived yet. I have a Soprano Uke i'm building for my newest grandson. So I'll be thicknessing everything at once. It's only going to be a 12 inch lower bout. After re-building that old Kay I fell in love with smaller guitars.....Lonnie B

Lonnie, that parlor sounds like a fun project. The plans for the Washburn parlor that I got from Michael Collins were also for a 12" lower bout, but I bumped it up to 13 1/2" to more closely resemble the instrument he's wanting me to copy. Those small boxes are comfortable to hold and are able to produce a surprising amount of good balanced sound.
I have yet to build a classical but it is on the back burner.

That's going to be a really nice looking guitar, Dave. I've not been inclined to build a parlor before - I should find one and play it to be fair, but this one definitely has captured my interest. I'll also be watching this progress. You're making some nice instruments.

I have been wanting a parlor lately. Something small.

These parlors are pretty cool -- I'm getting ready to kit up some size #2's -- got to make the bending form.

Re: Ladder-braced parlor guitar
Thanks Dave, Yes I'm getting up for this build. I posted every phase of the old Kay rebuild on my fb page for a friend. Also I have lots of musicians and a couple of guitar tech's on there. I got the Honduran Mahogany from Ebay. The red cedar top from a Luthier supply house. I ordered an Ebony fretboard and Ebony overlay from them for the little Kay. It still hasn't gotten here yet. I'm so impatient. You know guy's I'm learning more from this forum then all the other guitar forums I belong too...Lonnie B
