There's little I can add to your very good technique. I've been using shellac to fill...adding coats and sanding back. If I can figure out how to keep the TO from drying into a too pasty texture too quickly while sanding I intend to try your slurry method.

Thanks Terry.
You have a nice gloss on your instruments - do you polish the TO after curing, or leave it alone?

Still building coats - only 5 on so far. Unfilled pores are starting to fill.

I put on about 12 layers, 2 hours apart (roughly). It glosses up nicely, you can buff it after letting it cure a week or 2, or you can use 0000 steel wool to bring it to a satin finish (which is what I do on my necks). Dave may do it differently. I learned the pore filling TO method from Dave and it is great, much easier than others I've tried.

I do it about the same.

Dave: No, I haven't buffed the TO. I intend to give it try on one though... trying to decide what kind of buffer would be best considering my small, already cramped shop and equally cramped budget.

I have noticed that after six or eight coats that gently sanding back starting with 320 then finer and finer to six or eight thousand helps as the last six or eight coats go on.

That is very cool advice, I will try it. Thanks
