Wow, Ray, you gave me an idea for a soundhole!! :=)

Very informative posts Dave. DO you think the sound hole binding process will work with a different brand of rub? I'm not sure where to find Harry&David's Turkey Rub in my neck of the woods. Would a different can affect the tone? If I used a beef rub instead of a turnkey rub, would my guitar have a darker tone? Turkey is a white meat afterall, and maple is brighter than rosewood, so it stands to reason a rub for a dark meat would have some effect.

That is not a serious question, but I can see someone asking that very question. I once read that a telecaster with a rosewood fretboard has a darker tone than one with a maple fretboard. When pressed as to why the poster thought that, he said, "Well, rosewood is darker than maple, so..."
I laughed for days.

I'm a small one-man/one-cat shop, Tony, and don't have the 'resources' to experiment much with rubs. I expect that Sexauer or Bashkin will probably come out with a boutique that uses a caviar can or something..

Tony, I was just reading your post and said to myself, "I was going to ask the same question", and then I see that Dave has already answered it for us.
I'm going to use a caviar can when I make mine, it figure it CAN turn out better for sure :>)

Good theory Kevin. The more expensive the can you use, the better the results HAVE to be. There is no room for failure when you spend a lot of money. If a completely inept builder can benefit from an expensive tool or can of caviar.
I must now begin my search for the most expensive can I can find!
Aaaaannnd, I found it! Almas Iranian Caviar, $25,000 per tin. My guitars are going to sound so good!!!
