Slight gap...is this a problem?

I sanded the top edge of my rims a few days ago
and it looks great. Sanded it flat and then applied
the slope as detailed by Ken's directions.

Anyway, tonight I sanded the back edge using a 15'
radius dish (I bought the dish before learning
about Ken's 15' sanding stick).

As you can see from the pics I have about a 1/16th
gap between the neck block and the rim edge. Now,
I didn't want to take the rim down to meet the
neck block because I'm afraid when the neck is
attached the tail will hang over the back of the guitar.

Any ideas on how to approach this?

You need to make a shim/spacer -- flatten that block to get a good glue joint, glue on the shim, then resand to match the contour, You are not the first maker to have to do this modification.

Yep, I've been there, done that also on my first build which was a LMI serviced kit.
Easy to remedy, and no one will ever see it.

The other option would be to sand the rim down to the block and then cut the heel of the neck if it was too long. That would have been the easier fix. How deep is the guitar at the neck block now? Will it fit in a standard case? The route you chose is just fine, but there are other things to consider...like the depth of the case this guitar will go in. I make my dreadnoughts a bit deeper than standard...about .25" and they fit in a standard case just fine, so you are probably good to go.
