I contacted Blackbird Guitars - all-carbon fiber instruments - to ask about the hardness of the CF compared with hard wood - my concern being the ball ends pulling through, and Joe responded:
"Hi Dave,
Carbon fiber and epoxy are considered very hard on the hardness scale so happily ball ends have never been an issue for us. It helps too that the composite bridge has string slots that lock the ball under the bridge plate, the top and the bridge itself. A very robust combination indeed. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Joe"
So I'm good to go on that question.
Any advantage to this at all?

Nice. It's funny that the carbon fiber guy could not, or would not be more specific about the hardness of CF. It reminds me of the scene in "Meet the Parents" where Owen Wilson's character asks Ben Stiller's character, "How is your portfolio Greg?" And Fokker says, "I'd say strong to quite strong."
I have no doubt that the CF reinforced plate will do the job, by the way. I just find his answer funny.

When I buy a portfolio, I will get a pretty good one.
