I'm considering a spindle sander for my shop with the thought of using it for part of my neck carving process. Any suggestions on brand and size? Also do any of the dust ports seem to work on them?

Re: Spindle Sanders
Hi Preston,
Are you talking about the stationary horizontal or vertical machines or one of the rolling pin style?

Re: Spindle Sanders
The stationary versions. I have a rolling pin sander and it is good, although a dust maker, it works.

Re: Spindle Sanders
I have the Harbor Freight version ($129), and has been the best tool I have ever purchased from them. THat being said, I would get the rigid belt/spindle sander ($199 at Home Depot), I think it will give you much greater versatility for not a lot more money.
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

I've seen the Rigid, does it rate better then the Grizzly bench model?

I'll post some pixs of our neck station -- I have one of the Rigid sanders and yes it is a fantastic value, an oscillating 4" belt sanders for $200 I could hardly believe it. Almost every part we make is touched -up on that machine -- no joke!

Re: Spindle Sanders
The Rigid gets really good reviews as an inexpensive spindle sander on the woodworking forums. You also get a belt sander along with it. But budgets are budgets...I have a Delta that I got on clearance which serves me. The dust collection works.
