Construction Log for KMG J45-Style Dreadnought
Re: Construction Log for KMG J45-Style Dreadnought
I don't recognize the purfling, we normally send BWBWB - is what you used made of wood? Did you have to do any pre-bending for the stuff on the sides?

Nice work. The guitar is really coming along. The bindings and purflings look great.

You are correct Ken, I found some purflings at a specialty wood supplier down the road, so I used a BWB on the front and a WBW on the back. They are wood (or wood fiber). The banding on the sides is thin enough to not require any pre-bending. I don't think it's the sort of purfling usually found on guitars as it's thicker than normal, but I wanted to give the side purfling a whirl on this one and that was the only style I could get my hands on.kencierp wrote:I don't recognize the purfling, we normally send BWBWB - is what you used made of wood? Clean work and excellent documentation. I've been slacking on my documentation. Maybe I should kick it up a notch and photograph more than just the result of each step!

Some work on the neck:

Dave,
What is that fretboard? I love it. I appreciate a nice, black, uniform piece of ebony, but I also love wood that looks like wood. That is an outstanding looking fretboard. I imagine it is ebony? Stunning. Great job with the pics and the work. I am digging this thread.
