George,
I bought the rods at Goodwind Kites, online. However I just got a half dozen 48" rods from Home Depot that are sold as driveway markers, and if you figure shipping in to buy online, you can get them for about the same price, cut in half they are about a dollar a rod. Pretty cheap I think, and they work well. I needed more to cut shorter to use when gluing on the back and tops. I've tried some other methods for clamping, and I find the gobar is simple, quick, and efficient.

Slow slow slow, I am so slow!!
I carved ONE back brace the other night....that is it. The past weekend was a whirlwind and I wasn't able to get into the shop, but I will spend a couple of hours tonight. I used my new little wood brace shaving hand plane I made and it works very well. Still trying to figure the best way to hold on to it, but it cuts well, and I can even shave along the side of the brace, at least from the center point upward. I'm going to like using it.

Do the little plastic tip come with those FG rods? Can you buy them by the bag?
