Thanks George - looks like it needs to be ground on a - grinder, to get the hollow and create the edge.

Re: Carruth 'ultimate scraper'
I bought one of these a few months ago. Personally, I absolutely love it. Better than any other scraper I've ever used. I've used it a LOT (two dreadnaught's and a ukulele) so far I've never had to sharpen it. Knowing that sharpening it is inevitable, I bought one of those little mini grinders at Harbor Freight for a few bucks just for sharpening the Carruth (yes, I love this scraper "that much"). Now, if they will leave the video up long enough to refresh my memory when I DO have to sharpen it.........

Re: Carruth 'ultimate scraper'
Hello there
After 24 months of study under Al Carruth, I have finally completed my first guitar. Throughout the process, I was fortunate to use the "Carruth" scraper before it was referred to as the "Carruth" scraper in Stew Mac. This tool holds an edge very well and works amazingly. I would recommend it to anyone.

I certainly disagree with Al regarding the learning curve for sharpening a standard cabinet scraper - its really very, very easy and does not require a grinder --- but here's how to work and sharpen the thick tool steel type -- also pretty easy.
Re: Carruth 'ultimate scraper'
And you can make one for a couple of bucks -- a shaper cutter blank would be a good choice:

I had to find out for myself so I bought one and I'm glad I did. Definitely a little jewel.
