I agree if there is in fact a planned attempt to defraud (how could i think otherwise after 35 years in law enforcement) as the article indicates. So Ken, are you saying it should never be done or that when it is some type of marking is permanently attached to the instrument to so indicate the change or something else? I can see where that may be the ethical thing to do.

Certainly I can only speak for myself -- for me any modification done during a restoration that changes the identity of a collectible to something other then what was the original factory or artist's designation is not proper.
