Well, Eric is doing most of the work and doing a fine job. Thanks. We've pore filled with shellac, sanded the surface shellac off leaving it only in the pores, sanding thru grits up to 800, and will start applying tru-oil. I think it is going to play and look really fine.

Today we steamed out a couple of dings in the top, thus the iron in the background, sanded the entire instrument to 800, removed all the dust and started wiping on the tru-oil. The first coat always looks ragged but will be smoothed out as we go.
I wish I had known about the shellac pore filling a long time ago - it does a lovely job and gives the oil a great surface to adhere to.

- Just wiped on the first thin coat of TO - ugly duckling stage of finishing. By Monday we will smooth it out and start some build coats, then after 10 coats or so let it cure for a week before any sort of polishing.

Seems like Eric is working at warp speed --- how many hours to get the kit to this stage?

I don't think we've worked more than 3 hours a day because I have an afternoon student as well, so maybe 40 hours?

First coat of TO dried, roughed up a bit with 0000 wool, thin second coat applied. We're using a muneca type thing with cheesecloth wrapped in a microfiber cloth - MUCH better than the cotton balls I've used in the past. We are on our way.
