I guess you could see this coming but I am surprised it is Martin leading the way.

Did you noticed the sad faces of the dove tail fitters in the back ground? Just joking. I am not sure that machine would fit in my shop.

Yes there is reason for some employee concern, the concept is nothing new or revolutionary after all we now have the technology and discipline to machine hundreds of different components at different places around the world, collect them at one assembly location and end up with, for example an automobile engine that performs pretty much flawlessly for a 100,000 miles -- overland trucks 500,000 to 1,000,000 miles. It’s almost humorous to think that a simple perfect neck joint process cannot be automated. The problem for Martin and the others glorifying hand made dove tails, is to have a logical coexistence with the traditional marketing legends and myths. I suspect that Martin is headed for a new approach, highly automated, all solid woods (getting rid of that plastic line --jeezzz) at the same time elevating the upper lines to more of a custom hand made persona thus more $$$ --- My $.02

So far...they can't MAKE you buy machines insurance or fine you if you don't...if the owner could push a green button at 8AM and have 500 finished guitars when the owner pushes the RED button at 4PM it would happen....(No need to work til 4:30....machines don't eat! )
Makes ME very sad...it's just an example of things to come. Coca Cola will probably buy Martin next year and advertize "It's the REAL thing", GM will buy Coke and add machines with their left-over subsidizing...that way you can get a FREE electric Martin with every Chevy Volt! Then even nominal players can "Set the world on fire!"

Ray, you're a prophet. :-)

I think I'll change over to making hurdy-gurdys. There's little competition, but at least there's no market. lol.

Didn't Volkswagen already do that with an electric guitar?
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.
