Unknown bolt on installation SOLVED!

Post by Ray Ussery » Fri Jan 13, 2012 3:33 pm

OK I have searched for days trying to fine a link to this system and I give up.
I thought I saved it, if I did I hid it on myself, no surprise, I love Alzheimer's, your like a duck, everyday is a new world, there are no old movies and you only need one book. and you can hide your own Easter eggs.
ANYWAY I have no means of drawing a diagram, so I trust that I may be articulate enough to describe what I'm talking about and someone will know what that means...

I'm interested in this system and want to know if it's something NEW, or a waste of time and money...so here goes.

As I recall they are routing two channels on the top of the guitar and the BOTTOM of the fingerboard extension parallel to each other and I think they extend back under the finger board into the neck it's self. They hold a pair of hard wood "Fingers" that look like Lady finger cookies. I believe they are supposed to keep the bolt on neck from moving sideways. I THOUGHT they were glued in place but also used some sort of fasteners as well into the blocks from inside.
They make a metal router jig to help route these channels.
So...there you have it, does it make sense? has anyone else seen this? Is it worth while or a ruse?

Thanks, Ray :)

Don't think I've run across that one, Ray. Sounds pretty complicated, maybe a picture will clear it up. If I can find one.

I saw that on Ebay a while back (year or more) scratched my head and moved on.

Mystery solved! Not by ME...Ben-Had found it or knew where it was. Not trying to "Reinvent the wheel" here, I know there are tried and proven methods to do this of course, it was more of a curiosity to me than anything.
just another idea someone had I guess and I wondered if it had any validity or merit.
Thanks to Tim, and thanks to everyone else for your patience.
I guess this is a subject for the "Neck Joint" thread, leave it to me! :)

Also while you are there, look around at the other items available, including drawings for many useful tools you can make, including a router jig for neck shaping :)

Scroll down to "Neck Kit" If your iterested.

Its kind of an attempt at the Taylor neck scheme -- but it misses completely the main design feature -- Taylor necks have the heel and the finger-board extension mortised into the sound-board and rim. This enables the neck to be tipped one way or the other and still have the appearance of a perfect fit. In my view the heavy duty reinforcement shown with this device does little if anthing to improve the final build. My experimental "lab" guitar has the FB extension separate (cut off) at the 14th fret and the heel "butt joint" bolted flush. This guitar is a few decades old.

Before I read your post I PM'd him and basically said the same thing - stay away.
