How did they do this?
Cutting fret slots to depth without cutting through the sides of the fretboard - how is that done? That is not binding on the edges; what we see is just fretboard.

Re: How did they do this?
I would guess a CNC laser, but I wouldn't want to press/hammer in frets into a fire-hardenend slot - so maybe it is done with a CNC router?

CNC router. I know a guy who does them for about $35-40 a board. Any radius you want.

That is correct. And Dave, I could see where you might be able to do this with your copy cutter.TonyinNYC wrote:CNC router. I know a guy who does them for about $35-40 a board. Any radius you want.

Re: How did they do this?
Hmmmm, I responded to this at home at 7am and it is no longer here.
Well, what I said was.......
I've been giving thought to on my next fretboard, using the cutoffs when cutting the taper and making binding out of them, then binding the fretboard with those so it looks like this, like there is no binding. Of course the joint has to be perfect to "disappear".
Anyone done this before?
Kevin

I haven't tried that yet, Kevin, but I've seen it done and really like the look.
After all the fuss about my building the copy carver, I've had very little time to actually USE it, other than on small no-account projects. I will post a vid when I finally do something with it worth filming. But yeah, there might be a possibility of slotting a board with it; it would have to be tweaked perfectly though.

Did I ask you for pictures of your duplicator....noooooooooooooooo............not me!
I'm being very patient and waiting quietly, even though it has been months!!!!!!!!!!!! :>)
I bet you could use the duplicator to do the fret slots.
