mahogany ubass
http://photobucket.com/Ubass. This is the link to my photobucket album on my newest project, a ubass. I was intrigued when I first heard them on a youtube video, so I checked one out at a local music store. Thought I might be able to build one, so here we go. Based on the baritone uke by Scott Antes and some visual input from the Kala Ubass at the store this is what I came up with. The Kala had a simple cross brace on the top and that was it. The Antes plan was showing a fan brace pattern. I opted for the cross brace but added a UTB. Bridge plate might seem a bit large but is comparable to the Kala. The strings are a poly material and get threaded in from the inside through the bridge. I put an access panel in the back, like the Kala, to aid in the installation of the strings. The panel will be held in place with magnets. The body is slightly deeper than the Antes plans and the Kala, I thought the extra volume in the body will help. The neck is going to be 20" scale length, bolt on butt joint. Hopefully this all works out for me.
