Pore filler problems?

After reading many good reviews of the Hood's pore filler I decided to try it on my latest guitar. I have to say, I loved it and it was MUCH easier than the pore-o-pac I used previously.

However, I've had some finishing problems since that seem to be coming from the pore filler. I followed the Hood finishing schedule to the "T" but think I may have possibly sanded through a couple of spots before applying Behlen's rattle-can lacquer. I was hopeful the spots would disappear with subsequent coats of lacquer but they haven't. As a matter of fact, they seemed to get worse and showed up in additional places all over the guitar. After sanding the pore filler I applied 3 coats of lacquer as Hood recommends. My subsequent schedule was waiting 3 months (I moved out of the country), applied 8 coats of Behlen's, 45 minutes apart, wait 3 weeks to dry, sand, and do it again.

The good news is that although the spots show up after applying the coats of lacquer, they have sanded out as I leveled the finish in prep for subsequent coats. After sanding the first 8 coats of lacquer I was "almost" pleased enough with the finish to stop there, but decided to do one more course of lacquer. I drop filled a handful of spots and applied my second coarse of lacquer last week. Unfortunately, the spots in the unsanded finish have reappeared ... but just barely. I've included pictures of the spots after the first course of 8 coats.

My question is this: Assuming everything sands out fine and the finish looks great in another 2 weeks, would you expect the "spots' to show up sometime down the line ... meaning I need to sand back now to the bare wood and start over. OR, do you think it will be okay as-is. I realize you don't have a crystal ball but have you ever heard of other's having issue like this with Hood's products? I'm not totally convinced that it's the Hood's anyway but I could "barely" see what appeared to be sand-through when I was finished using the pore filler. Thoughts?

Hi Mark,
Hate to off load the problem but I believe that you should contact Erick at Hood. I do recall that it indicates on the can not to sand off/through the pore filler. I do not think this will not resolve itself. My best advice is to get a solution from the product designer. Sorry but that's all I got.

Thanks, I really did like the product ... assuming it wasn't the issue or it can be fixed. Are you still using it?

Sorry as far as I know "Erick' is the support group, early on he answered all the questions I sent there.

Well if you check out the thread about Zpoxy finishing resin you'll note that I recieved tech varification that Zpoxy FR is indeed compatible with nitro lacquer, so I likely will switch to that after a little more testing. It is more transparent then the Hood -- but still nasty to apply, jury still out.
