I used the shaped neck heel as my template. I bolted the neck on over the sides and used a sharp marking knife to scribe the outline. Took the neck off and carefully cut in the scribed line with with a new box cutter blade till it was thru the side layer. Chiseled out the sides down to the neck block. Makes a good fit for the neck heel. Unless someone knows what to look for, they can't tell that the heel is inset. This is my all WRC guitar. All cedar but the fancy bits.
Are you using a screw down fretboard extension system?
