Okay, I made an experiment. I had a bridge blank with a slot in it. I turned it over to make a lefty slot. Then drilled holes to match an old belly bridge.
Then I took an old belly bridge and filled its slot with an ebony strip.
Then I screwed the two together to my benchtop.
Then I just followed the slot with the shank of my dremel cutting bit 1/8"
Worked just fine. The slot looks a little crooked in the pic but is actually nice and straight.

edit: btw, I won't be using that bridge, it was just something to try.

Yeah the base of the Dremel needs to be totally captured -- maximum pass cutting depth = 1/2 x bit diameter ( this is a rule I have always followed) -- so yer' talking 7 or 8 passes to get to a depth of .28"

I've been messing with it a bit - if the slot in the template is the width of the dremel shank, not the cutting head - it's very accurate and probably the way I will do it.
I'll remember the depth rule!

Johnny has left the house!
A couple of bad pix in the late afternoon sun.

This is a loud guitar, at least played upside down! I put a little lighter set of strings on than I normally would because she has to get used to playing it. I'll have it brought back in a month or so for any tweaks needed plus some final intonation work.

Glad to make it, glad it's outta here. Now on to other things, maybe even a copy machine vid for Kevin in Ca. :-)
