Pore o Pac does a great job "if you follow the directions" there are no short cuts including drying time at least 24 hours. The instructions specifiy using "burlap" to wipe off and burnish the filler -- my guess is that many say "what the heck I'll just use these rags I have laying around in the shop" -- big mistake with the oil base fillers. In fact the burlap acts as a fine abrasive smoothing the particulates rather then sucking out the oil and pulling the filler back out of the pores.
That said -- it is very, very messy stuff!! So if the project has Maple other light wood or plastic purfs or bindings it is indeed a PITA trying to keep from getting the filler on them and equally a PITA cleaning off the areas where your precautionary measures failed --- I will soon be trying out the Zpoxy method, now that I know it is indeed compatible with nitro lacquer the only downside seems to be the tinting due to its amber coloration.
What do the factories use as a pore filler?
