Urethane glue

Post by ken cierp » Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:09 am

I've been experimenting with the newer "White Gorilla Glue" -- mostly using it to construct foam RC airplanes. I only needed to use the original formula once before tossing it in the trash -- it actually took days before the stains on my skin went away. Unfortunately I would not give the white stuff any high marks -- since it does not seem to dry "hard" and the glue line is kind of rubbery one could make the assumption that is not a good characteristic for an adhesive used to make musical instruments. Also, while the expansion feature of the product offers some salvation for poor fitting joints, I find that the required clean up is a real and total PITA! $.02

Ken:

Thanks for the info. I was reading somewhere, I think a link to an article that you posted that poly glue is really weak if the joint isn't tight; i.e. a gap needs to be filled. It also breaks down in UV, which isn't a problem for guitars.
