What do you use for a flat reference surface in your shop. Anything? Plate glass? B-grade granite from Grizzly?
If plate glass, what dimensions, mainly what thickness?

I have a 12" x 12" x 2" thick piece of granite. Wish it was bigger!

Re: Flat, flat surface
I spent about 5 dollars for a piece of 12"x12" marble tile....an extra when I did or bathroom.
So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

I have both a marble tile, 12" by 12" and a granite slab, 4" by 1" by 24" that I use for various operations. The tile is mostly for sharpening, but when sanding small objects that need to remain flat, I will use it too. The granite piece is for fretboards, necks, and fret work.

Ok Tony, now I am curious how you use it for that. Please elaborate. The granite piece is for fretboards, necks, and fret work.
