Nice Ken - the R Taylor is a unique brace pattern.

Here is the Taylor sample; the lower bout measures 16" so I am assuming it is a GA size (300 or400 series based on the rosette).

I did hear when I was there that they cut the tops, backs and sides to final dimensions with the laser cutters, so there is no trimming on final assembly.

Is the routed channel designed to rest just inside the kerfing line?

The route centerline is 1/2" from the outside edge of the top. I don't quite know what that means since I cannot figure how they could install the binding without routing - making a "cut to the final size" a bit of a misnomer. The relief itself appears to be abt 1/4 wide by who knows how deep.

Lasers? Too high tech for me. I roughly, and I stress ROUGHLY cut mine out with a coping saw. I wouldnt mind a bench top band saw to use for the sole purpose of cutting out tops, backs and profiling sides. Too bad they mostly all stink from what I hear.

I'll take the stinky one.

In my brother's shop there is a real nice band saw. Trouble is, it's always got "the wrong blade" on, usually a wide one for resawing. I would love a table top model with a nice thin blade for tops, sides... regardless of the smell.

I'm curious about the thickness of the top where it is routed... is it 1/16?
