Saddle slot angle

Post by Kyle Barbour » Sat May 12, 2012 2:37 pm

I know this is a topic where alot of info is available but ofcourse this is not always a good thing. Alot of people tend to say alot of different things. I was very happy with the KMG kit bridge and locating jig. I would like to make my own bridge this time and use the KMG bridge setter for installation. So my question would be, is it as simple as measuring the KMG saddle slot and duplicating it or is there more to it?

Duplicate it! You can design your bridge around the slot if you want - I've done it - copied Ken's slot and angle onto a blank and then designed around it.

Is there a 'standard' angle for the saddle? I'm not trying to start a compensation discussion, but a woodworking one. If I'm making a bridge, what do I use for the slot angle I'm going to cut into the bridge? I suspect the angle is in reference to a line going down the center of the neck down the body of the guitar, but is there a consensus on what that might be?

Thanks very much. This is my first post in this forum, I'm clearing up my shop to allow for my (probably slowly) scratchbuilt guitar projects to take life.

2.7 degrees +/- is common -- even Martin

Thanks very much. Nice to have a bit of information to add to the accumulation of what I'll need.

You can also measure 4mm from the front of the bridge to the edge of the slot at the treble side, and 8mm to the edge of the slot at the bass side, to establish the angle. But I would listen to the more experienced guys first.

Dave, at some point you are going to have to admit it - You are starting to be one of the " more experienced guys.!"
