Working with two new products for me
The first is Super Assilex finishing sand paper. It is an absolute marvel of a sanding sheet. It cuts at a grade courser than its grit. So it cuts really fast. I worked with it dry and one sheet goes along way as it does not seem to dull. Very easy to knock the sanding dust off and continue. I bought the Super Assilex Finishing Started kit from Stewmac. From now on once I am sanding back a finish it will be the paper I will use.
I used it on the body sprayed with Royal Lac post cat.
The second is a spray can lacquer from GluBoost: Lac R' Shot! It sprays a very thin flash coat. Dry to touch in minutes and can be resprayed when tried to the touch. They have a cold check product as well. The spray tip is light years away from rattle cans. I would be happy to have my gun set up as nice as this sprays. I am using the UltraThin Flash Coat they also have a cold check product.
I used it on the headstock veneer as a respray, I did not like the prep I did on the head stock around the inlay so I sanded it back sealed with shellac and used this lacquer. I should be able to buff it in a couple of days according to their instructions.
Here is what around 10 coats look like off the gun.

I've been using the Assilex lately and recently got a sample set of Buflex (P2000, P2500 and P3000). This stuff is great, finish sanding with no water.

I ordered the buflex sample kit. I am not sure I need it as I been buffing after 1500 but I am excited to change.Carl Dickinson wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 3:05 pm I've been using the Assilex lately and recently got a sample set of Buflex (P2000, P2500 and P3000). I did sand and buf out the head stock I used assilex. The combo of spray and the Assilex worked out. It only took a few moments to level and sand up to 1500 and buff. I do see why people still use nitrocellulose.

I've done satin nitro lately and the buflex needed no mechanical buffing for the finish I wanted. Assilex and buflex seem to work faster and easier than micromesh. I still have been using P400 mesh pads on a RO sander for the initial leveling.
