I have started using #1. It helps me keep the top or back from moving during the glue up. It only fits in one position. #2 is easier however as sometimes the chisel or router slips and things are not hidden from view.

Taylor marches to its own drummer....Taylor routs a slot on the underside of the soundboard inside the arc of the lining to loosen the top up a bit (I think), so that running braces across that routed slot to the linings might dampen that potential movement. I think.
