New hearing aids

Post by Dave Bagwill » Fri Nov 19, 2021 1:59 am

So I picked up my hearing aids at the VA yesterday. What a difference - I can hear differences in pitch, birdsongs, the folks arguing next door. Apparently he does not listen to her enough, and she is cold towards him :-)

When I got home I looked the brand and model number up online, and they sell for around $4.5K. That may or may not be an indication of quality but at least the VA popped for something above the minimum.

The best part - if you know electric guitars - is that the model number of the aids is: P-90! Oh yeah...

That is great. Pretty amazing processing power. I am getting where I can not hear when multiple conversations are happening. I saw you hearing aids can focus on an individual and quiet background noise.

My only experience before this was with Costco aids a few years ago. I had to return them for a refund. They had 4 or 5 programs for different situations. These do not have those programs and they work a lot better.

Hey Dave, glad you were able to get those to help your hearing.
John, am having similar issues as you. That background noise is a real problem.
My wife gets on me constantly to where the ear muffs in the shop.......dust masks too.
I don't think I need the hearing aids yet though.

The change with the new aids has been astounding. I'd like to urge all of you to at least get a hearing test; they are cheap, quick, and will alert you to a loss you may not even be aware of. Recovering good hearing is a real enhancement.
I'm in the habit of taking a handful of birdseed every morning, out to the bird feeders. I do love to sit and watch their little lives, it's entertaining and humorous. But the day after I got the aids, and went out with the handful of seed, I was astonished to hear all the commotion as I filled the feeder - so many chirps and tweets and caws - I'd been missing entirely. There are birds everywhere making happy sounds, and I was missing it.
And of course, getting music back is a huge blessing as well; subtleties of harmony and dynamics that I used to enjoy and had lost are now once again a joyful thing.
Ok, I'm gushing - I just want to encourage you to take an hour, get a test, and make sure you're not missing out.
