John, she's a beauty! Did you do the CA flood method on the purfling and what is the neck wood? Thanks for posting your build.

Thanks John. And thanks Jim. Yes I did flood the purfling channel when all those little segments (some stripey BRW) were snapped in. The neck is thermally modified mahogany. It turns such a beautiful dark color.

Time to fret. Since I did the fret slots with a router and a 1/16” bit it’s just a matter of a little glue and push the frets in. A bit of glue as well. Once it’s dry I nip the ends off and sant the edges smooth. Then the fretboard gets glued to the neck and then I level, shape and get the frets very close to final. Some finish sanding and I can move on to finishing.

The bar frets look cool on the edges. They look substantial, Does it take much to nip off the ends. I see in the last picture that they appear nicely crowned.

JoihnJ - are you going to pore-fill the cocobolo and what is your method for that?
The cocobolo I have has what appears to be mineral deposits - o you notice any on your set?

Or if anyone here has worked with cocobolo - did you notice lots of pores with what appears to be a lighter-colored fill in the bottom of the pore?

Hi Dave. I’m in the process now of pore filling with epoxy. One coat on and sanded back. I’ll need to do at least one more. No white deposition this wood. I had that once on a set of EIR. Ken suggested acetone to remove them. He said they were mineral deposits.

Thanks John.
This afternoon I found that a test application of tru-oil yesterday was sufficiently dry, so I sanded in a few drops of oil to create a slurry, and within a minute or so the pores were filled and did eliminate the discolorations in the pores, whatever it was. So this should be fine.
