I did not realize how soft it is. Only an 800, and this clip is just the very bottom of the hardness scale:

I would just joint it together. And if you sand it down, and it "whobbles" the right way, you're in the right spot.

Yes! Kent Everett teaches a method of joining the plates holding them on the side and shaking. Keep thinning until they sound like sheet metal when shaking. The change is quite dramatic, so easy to note. I get the same thickness for a steel string that way or the Gore way. I have tested it on about five tops.

If I just did Steel String guitars I would do that and not worry so much about all the measuring. I do not know of a way or have a feel for classical tops as they are made quite floppy.

I use the "wobble" method and I have to say my steel strings ring!
