I just bought a HF router and I'm trying to figure out how to attach the KMG trimmer attachment to it. Am I correct in that I have to cut off the two plastic tabs on the base so that I can center the attachment over the 1/4" cutter bit? I really don't want to narrow the width of the attachment foot to fit between the tabs.
Also the two holes that need to be drilled to bolt the attachment to the router base are 2 1/2" apart (center to center). This presents a problem because the vertical walls of the router base are approximately 2 1/2" apart and this would interfere with adding the locking nuts. What solution have you guys come up with here? Is there a glue that would hold the attachment to the router base? Hope my questions & concerns makes sense.

In my opinion -- It always best to "first" contact the manufacture of a product, be it KMG or any other maker to get advice on use of their device. That said, the plastic tabby right angle guide simply pulls out of the base.

Re: Trim router
Could you unscrew the sub-base and attach it to that? Looks like there is enough room so that the screw head would not protrude.

We have had hundreds of this style router in the KMG shop - they are used on our KMG Binding Machines -- There is no problem, the edge guide slides right out of a slot -- think about it, if that edge guide could not be removed how could you possibly route anything on a flat surface??

Re: Trim router
Got it Ken, thanks. I didn't realize that the edge guide just slides out. I thought it was molded in as part of the base. A router is something I've never used before. Now if I can figure out where to drill the bolt holes to attach the accessory to the base I'll be set to go when the time comes.

I'm beginning to believe the name "Success Kit" is very appropriate. Things are easy when "someone" knows what I should be doing ... thanks again Ken.
It looks like I will have to deepen the channel in the leading edge of the guide to accomodate more depth for the bit.
