I've never purchased brace wood from Old Standard but have purchased several tops and a Honduras Rosewood set -all excellent purchases.
I've "Ben-Had" again!

Very interesting. It got me thinking the construction industry does not care about the grain orientation of their dimensional lumber which is often used structurally. I hear quartersawn wood is more environmentally stable which is a good reason to use it in necks. But this article does call into question selection of brace and bridge wood.

The nice thing about well-quartered stock is that the chiseling is like going through butter. This off-quarter stuff is a pita imho. Nicks, digs, other deplorable defects seem to be more common.
