dehumidifier

Post by osgoor » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:26 pm

I will be building my kit down here in very humid florida and will be needing a dehumidifier. My build area will be a spare bedroom. Can anyone recommend one for me?

Before you run out and spend money on a dehumidifier, have you checked the humidity in the spare bedroom yet? Is there AC in the room? I live right around the corner from you in south Louisiana and I have a workshop with a window unit in it and for the most part I don't need a dehumidifier. It would be nice to have one but I have learned to work around it. Inside the house here The humidity rarely goes above 60%.

It's been awhile since I followed up on this topic. This past weekend the humidity in our house was in the low 70's. I ran the AC for about 5 hours to bring it down but that will be expensive here in Florida so again back to looking for a dehumidifier.

Recommendations?

I'm in the same situation. Humidity is 65% in the house summer and winter. I can get it down by opening the windows after a cold front comes through, but that lasts only a couple of days. My HVAC guy will be installing an AprilAire whole house unit after he recovers from his injuries.
My AC doesn't run long enough in the summer to bring the humidity down.

If you can wait that long I'll let you know how it works.

Eric.

Soleus Air DP1-70-03 70 Pint Room Portable Dehumidifier

I've used one for a couple of years, does the job even in high humidity. Never went above 45%

We have the largest "LG" in one of our shops (1300sq. ft.) it has run flawlessly for two seasons so far. We set it at 45% -- runs a lot!
